I am pretty stoked that not everyone these days wants to do the standard backdrop headshot. The "Coldwell Banker" as I like to call it. A traditional headshot definitely has a time and place, and those will never go out of style. But when a client comes to you and wants something a little different, then you can start to push the standard around a bit.

Random stuff..
I've been busy editing and getting stuff out, but here's some random things I've been working on over the last week or so.
"Say Taco"
My latest shoot was kind of a throwback. An old friend of mine that I hadn't seen since high school contacted me wanting some pictures. Of course! After we scheduled, I sat back and thought about how long ago that was; a time when I was just worried about skateboarding and hanging with my friends, chasing girls and cruising in my car. Sometimes it seems like just last week, and sometimes it seems like it was a lifetime ago. Back when we were just kids- not really knowing what was coming next, and here we were years later taking pictures of her kids and discussing remodel plans for our houses. I never would have thought. But I guess that's what happens. These days, with all the craziness of raising a family and all the things we all have going on in our lives, it's always good to see an old friend and get a chance to meet their family.
Oh, and sometimes, we bribe our kids with Mexican food to get them to smile. "Say taco".
Super Saturday Night Skate Social
We took a drive over the hill on Saturday night for a friend's birthday. The party took place at the old roller rink in Santa Cruz. Walking into the place was like stepping back in time, the exposed rafters and windows made it seem more like a barn than anything else, and the way the neon lights on the ceiling gleamed off the sheen on the half century old wood floor was super retro. Everyone had a good time, and there were some pretty awesome crashes too. My family and I always seem to like to talk about the damage. When it comes to shooting, I really like the "fly on the wall" approach, just scooting around and snapping shots as I see interesting things happening. I hope to be able to do more of this soon.
